Numbers beginning with 0330 are part of the ‘03’ non-geographic telephone number range. They are charged at the same rate as calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02 prefixes) when called from the UK.
So, why do companies use 0330?
- 0330s give a national presence (not tied to a specific region) while signalling a professional business or organisation number.
- They avoid the higher cost-caller perceptions of older non-geographic numbers such as 084 or 087.
- From the caller’s viewpoint: if your mobile plan includes landline calls (01/02), then calls to 03/0330 numbers should also be included.
What this means for callers
If your mobile tariff includes calls to landlines (01/02), then calls to a 0330 number should be included with no additional per-minute cost.
If you go outside the inclusive minutes or your plan doesn’t include landline calls, then you’ll pay your provider’s standard landline rate (which for mobiles can vary widely).
Remember: calls to 0330 must not cost more than calls to 01/02 numbers under regulation
Current industry insights
- According to the regulator Ofcom, landline calls to 0330 numbers are typically up to around 16p per minute, with some providers charging a connection (set-up) fee.
- For mobile calls: many providers include 0330 calls within inclusive minutes. But if you have no inclusive landline minutes, mobile call costs may range from approximately 3p to 65p per minute, depending on your provider & plan.
- Due to these variabilities, it’s always advisable to check with your provider before dialling.
