Mobile phone tariffs and call charges can be hard to navigate with different providers changing different amounts, and even varying prices within their own range of tariffs. It is very important to make sure you have a good understanding of your tariff before you sign the contract.
Whereas 0800 numbers are usually free on most tariffs other 08 numbers won’t usually be. Giff Gaff for example charges 25p per minute for 0844 phone numbers, with no minimum time which is significantly lower than other networks but it also charges a standing service charge that goes to the owner of the number which can make phone calls more expensive. This is why many businesses buy 0844 numbers for marketing purposes – so they can make money from the calls. You should always make sure you know the standing service charge before you call.
Other numbers that are unlikely to be included in your contract include 09 numbers, ringing your voicemail and number starting 118. Sending and receiving premium texts will also be outside of your free allowance and you should check the amount before sending.
