From July 2015 changes were made by Ofcom to the way customers were charged for calling 0870 numbers. The changes were made as a way to make it clearer to the consumers.
The cost of calling these nunbers was split into two parts.
The access charge
This is the cost of connecting your call to the network, charged in pence per minute.
The service charge
This is the remaining cost of the call and is decided by the organisation you call. This cost must be clearly communicated to the customer and described as following: “Calls cost 20p a minute, plus your phone company’s access charge”.
Dialling an 0872 number from a TalkTalk Landline will typically be 7.5p per minute, plus an additional 13p per-call charge.
