Calling an 0800 number from a Virgin Media phone has been free from both home phones and mobile phones since July 2015. This is in contrast to other numbers such as 0845 or various premium 09 numbers which be can costly to call.
0800 numbers are part of the “freephone” group of telephone numbers which also includes the 0808 and 116 numbers. These have been free to call since 2015 since Ofcom introduced measures to control consumer confusion and finally made “freephone” numbers free. This sparked the end of the “calls may vary from other landlines and calls from mobiles may cost considerably more” warnings which used to appear on adverts.
0800 call costs for Virgin Media customers
Businesses can also benefit from buying 0800 numbers because taking on the calling costs can make it look like you care by allowing them to call you for free. People are more likely to call a company if it’s for free, so this can increase customer service and allow people to be more loyal to your brand.
0800 numbers are widely recognisable as being free to call in the UK.
